My Super Soccer Stud

Ahhh - my sweet Colson - often getting passed over as he goes with the flow. Sometimes he's lumped in with what I call the "big kids;" sometimes lumped into what I call "the little boys." Always wears hand-me downs. Didn't get to do drama like the older kids. Doesn't go to a Wednesday night class like the little kids. He's the middle child. I'm the oldest child, Jason is the baby - it seems like sometimes we might need a little improvement in making sure we are doing all we can to help Cole thrive from the center of the pack.

We were so excited when an opportunity opened up this past semester for Colson to play soccer. Our good friend, Micah, was the awesome (and when I say awesome I mean SUPER PATIENT) coach. The team was only 7 boys and Cole already knew two of them. He was so excited when I asked him if he wanted to play.
It's easy to pick Cole out because his jersey had to be a different shade of yellow. He didn't mind - he's used to not getting what everyone else gets. I don't even think he noticed.

The season was quick - which was good - it didn't make me feel to bogged down with practices and games. The entire family would go to the games and that gave Cole the biggest cheering section around. We learned that Cole is not going to be a professional soccer player but by the end of the season he had really improved so much (considering on the drive to his first practice I was doing a crash course on soccer "You know you can't use your hands, right?" "You know you kick the ball through a goal, right?).

Soccer was his own thing and it felt great to give it to him. He may be in the middle but he doesn't hold a lesser place in my heart. This little guy is just coming in to the boy he is going to be and it is so exciting to be a part of it. He is funny and sweet. He plays hard but it also sensitive. He hates school but is so smart and really stinkin' cute. I love him dearly and hope to do all I can to raise him to fear and love the Lord.

  2. That's so great that Cole was able to do something all his own! One of my favorite things to do is watch kids play sports- they are always learning and having fun!

  4. Umm...I mean I know we are good friends and all but calling my husband your "super soccer stud" is taking it a little far, don't you think? He's married, lady, just check out his left finger (oh..wait, I see you have cropped that part out of the photo).

  5. Ah, Cole is a cutie! I'm sure it's hard trying to nurture and help develop each childs strengths and temperaments but it seems you guys do a great job of it!

  6. I always tell people I have 3 middle children, and I say I am a middle child too, #2 of five. I hate that stereotype "middle child" thing. Cole is a cutie! Good job for him learning a new sport! Good job for YOU for going to all the games and practice with six kiddos in tow!
